Instagram Reels: Should You Use It For Your Business?

Instagram Reels: Should You Use It For Your Business?

Recently, you’ve noticed Instagram rolled out a new feature last month: Reels. Reels is Facebook’s new TikTok competitor that allows you to also create short form video content.

You have the ability to record and edit 15-second videos with audio, effects, and creative tools from Instagram Stories. You can also share your TikTok videos on Reels with your followers on Feed, and if you have a public account, make them available to a wider audience.

How to create Instagram Reels:

1. Swipe left from your home page to access stories page.

2. Choose “Reels” from the bottom menu .

3. Tap the Reels button to record your own video or add video clips (click on the lower left hand to add a video of your own)

4. Once your reel is ready, move to the share screen, where you can save a draft, change the cover image, add a caption and hashtags, and tag friends.

5. After you post your reel, it will live on a separate Reels tab of your profile. Like IG TV, it is where people can find the reels you’ve posted.

6. If you choose to share your Reel on your Feed, it will appear on your main profile grid. You do have the option to remove it from your Feed, and it will stay in the Reels tab of your profile instead.

I’ve put it to the test and here are the pros and cons:

Pros:

- Showcase your skillset and walk your followers thru “how to” videos.

- Reach a new audience in the Explore page.

- Shoot a before and after of a product.

- Shoot a before and after of a client who came to you for a specific service.

- Record your latest at home workout routine for clients.

- Do a quick video of a new food item you’re offering in restaurants online.

- Show all the different ways you can use a new product you’re offering online.

- Can share clips of recorded videos and TikTok videos.

Cons:

- Another feature to learn how to use.

- May not be available on all types of accounts.

- Doesn't link to your branded hashtag.

- May target customers who are not your ideal audience.

Final verdict: Instagram Reels is simple to use once you get the hang of it. So why not give it a try?
